Following the Money
With the success of the show Sister Wives, TLC has created two new reality shows centered around polygamy, Seeking Sister Wife and Three Wives, One Husband. Only time will tell if these shows are as popular as Sister Wives.Seeking Sister Wife
Seeking Sister Wife follows three families who are looking to add a new wife to the group. It shows the process the families go through in order to find a new wife.
The Snowden Family
First you have the Snowden who at the moment only have one wife and two children with one more on the way. The first few episodes show the couple pursuing a prospective wife. She is tall, pretty and young. After husband Dimitri and the young woman are clearly are attracted to each other and after all three of them meet for lunch, Dimitri and she go off on a private date. The following morning when wife Ashley finds out they had sex she is not happy. Apparently there are rules against sleeping with a prospect without Ashley and Dimitri talking about it first and Ashley giving her approval. When the threesome meet up again for lunch Ashley wants an explanation for her. She seems to forget her husband was a willing participant but her anger seems to be directed solely at the young woman. When the woman doesn't confess her sins and apologize to Ashley, she quickly shuts down the relationship but Dimitri is ok with it cause he got his cookies already and is ready to move on to the next woman.
The next prospect is a friend of Ashley's. After chatting with the coupe and confirm she is open to a polygamist lifestyle, they arrange for the three of them to go on a date. One of the first comments Dimitri states in his interview is about the woman's size but quickly follows is up with "but that's ok" News flash Dimitri - it is ok to be large than a size 6. But in the end he could vibe with the mother of 5 and decided not to peruse a relationship with the woman.
Allredge Family
Next you have the Alldredge family. They currently have two wives and seven children. These two sister wives actually seem to get along well with each other. In the show so far they try pursuing a woman that was an online friend of one of the wives, Sharis. After chatting a few times online, they made arrangements for the woman to fly out and meet the family but she never got on the plane leaving the family holding welcome signs at the airport. After a period of radio silence, the woman resurfaced, calling Sharis and telling her she wanted to fly out and meet. Basically the woman had no intention of joining the family at this point and only want to get closer on the opportunity. So once again the family was left disappointed. The Briney Family
Finally, you have the Briney family which already has three wives and 15 children. Husband Drew married his third wife after only 2 weeks of courtship. First wife, and the only legal wife, April has no problem manipulating Drew and the other wives or playing the victim when she doesn't get her way. Recently the family decided they need to leave Utah to avoid legal trouble, April didn't hesitate to voice her opposition to the plan, knowing she was the only one that didn't face prosecution for polygamy by being Drew's legal wife. After going round and round with the family and not convincing them all to risk going to prison and losing their children, April suggests to Drew that they all move while she stays behind and he could come visitor her every other week. Drew expresses shock at her selfishness which is a little surprising. After all she has been nothing but selfish and winy through the entire show. Every time April opens her mouth the only thing that comes out is victim noises.Second wife Aurlee and Angela seem to get along well. Aurlee is the peacemaker and always trying to connect with the other wives though is difficult at times with April. She seems to be at peace with her role in the family and is happy to have an ally in Angela.
Three Wives, One Husband
Enoch Foster has two wives and an impressive 17 children considering he only has two wives. He began courting a young 25 year old woman who is 20 years younger then him and was not shy about showing affection in front of his other wives. The strangest scene I have seen on the show so far is where Enoch was lying on a blanket on the grass during a family picnic with a wife on each side of him with all three spooning while the young hopefully soon-to-be wife sitting next to them in a chair with Enoch and one of his wives arms (while holding hands) wrapped around the woman's ankles. It was a really weird scene.
Enoch gathered the family together to vote on whether or not they should invite the young woman Enoch is courting to join the family. Wife number two, Lillian noticeably doesn't raise her hand during the first vote and admits its hard watching her husband fall in love with another woman, again. Young son Joseph takes a more direct approach and says no several times before finally being convinced to change his vote.
And in the end when Enoch was ready to pop the question, the young woman stated that she wasn't in love with him and viewed him as friend not a husband. And so the hunt for a new wife goes on.
Living next door to the Fosters is Abel Morrison, his three wives and eleven children. Abel faces the dilemma of whether or not to married the wives of his friend who passed away and who asked him to take care of his wives and children after he died. Abel's current wives aren't excited about the prospect.
Noticeably absent from the community are young men. With all the little boys running around the community, you would think there would be more available, girl crazy, young men. So I guess the question is where have they all gone. I will say it makes it pretty convenient for the middle-age and older men who are looking for another wife when there's no competition from younger men and forcing the young women to choose a much older husband.
Members of the cast have been fairly open with their beliefs and lifestyle. In one episode it is explained the the men believe that they are gods in training and will someday be given their own planet to rule over. The more wives and larger families they have the better chance they have of getting their own planet so they will continue marrying women until God tells them enough.
This is one show I will definitely keep tuned into. I think it will offer up a lot of insight not only into polygamy but also there belief system. With plenty of "what the crap!" moments.
