The Curse of Civil War Gold

The Curse of Civil War Gold

Spin Off of The Curse of Oak Island

I just began watching The Curse of Civil War Gold. I have watched The Curse of Oak Island since the beginning of the show with high hopes that at some point in time they would find treasure. However after watching the show for several years, I have been nothing but disappointed. Besides finding a few trinkets that shows that people stopped by or spent time on the island over the past several hundred years, they have found no solid evidence there is a treasure on the island.  I have no idea why I keep watching it but I guess it's the optimist in me. Either that or I am just a giant sucker but I have come to accept they are never going to find treasure on Oak Island.

The Curse of Civil War Gold

The Curse of Civil War Gold is a spin off of The Curse of Oak Island and follows the hunt for a cache of civil war gold and silver that is believed to have been stolen by Union solders when they captured confederate president Thomas Jefferson in  1865. The soldiers supposedly first buried the gold in Georgia near where president Jefferson was captured and later moved the treasure to Michigan where the gold and silver some how ended up at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

Treasure hunter Kevin Dystra is basing his theory on a death bed confession by a lighthouse keeper in 1890. Kevin is trying to convince The Curse of Oak Island treasure hunter, Marty Lagina to help fund his treasure hunt.

Thoughts About the Show

It seems that there is a lot of "theory" in this treasure hunt with little hard fact. There are a lot of assumptions being made. However with that said, it doesn't mean there isn't a civil war treasure out there somewhere.

One of my issues with this story about a treasure being at the bottom of Lake Michigan, is that I have heard it before. Whether anyone else has gone looking for it before and to what extent I don't know, I haven't researched that information.

It does seem like they have found some clues to support their theory though. They did discover there is an old locomotive engine laying on its side in the sand on the shore of Lake Michigan and have produced old pictures showing railroad tracks running along side the shore. Which supports their theory the gold was moved from Georgia to Michigan by train. But there are so many more dots that need to be connected not to mention finding the treasure its self. I guess the big question is will the clues and evidence they have gathered so far be enough to get Marty Lagina to invest in the Kevin's treasure hunt.

The Bottom Line

Of course being a reality show freak, I will continue watching the show, keeping my fingers crossed every step of the way. And while I know that there is some scripting and staging to reality TV and not everything is filmed as it happens naturally, I still am hooked on it and holdout hope there is still some reality to it.
