Another Season of Sister Wives Comes to an End
I have been watching Sister Wives from the very beginning. When I first saw the show I was fascinated with the idea of this family structure and if it could really work with everyone having the needs met and being truly happy. When the show first aired the family appeared to be happy with everyone getting along wonderfully. At first there were only three wives but husband Cody Brown was courting a fourth wife, Robyn. While first wife Meri seemed excited about Robyn joining the family, the other two wives were not so excited especially Christine who appeared to have a bad case of green eyed monster syndrome when it came to Robyn. After all Robyn was younger then the other wives, thinner and prettier. Plus she was all shinny and new which meant she had Cody's full attention. Not to mention that she and Cody did kiss before they got married which is something he didn't do with the other wives. Robyn also seemed to have the most influence over Cody so you can't really blame the other wives for being jealous.
The Children
It has been interesting following the kids growing up over the years and seeing their opinions on things change. At first some of the kids said they would follow in their parents foot steps and live a polygamist lifestyle. However over the years they have changed their minds and none of the children now say that is their intentions. None of the older children have remained in the polygamist Mormon faith.I will say though, that even though the older children have decided not to follow their parents beliefs, they all seem very happy and have not problems with the way their parents have chosen to live. They don't seem to be embarrassed by it and are very open with talking to others about it. You never hear any of the children complain about their family or upbringing. It's obvious that regardless of what turmoil goes on amongst the parents, they love all the children are good parents to them.
Meri
I'll admit that in the beginning Meri was not my favorite person. She was painted as the bossy wife and even on occasion a bit of a "mean girl." However over the years I have come to see the struggles she has had to endure. It had to be hard being the first wife, for three years she had Cody all to herself. Then along came Janelle, who was Meri's sister-in-law at the time. She was married to Meri's brother whom Janelle divorced a year after meeting Cody and who was the one who made the first move in her relationship with Cody.Meri has talked about her and Cody's struggle with how to incorporate Janelle into the family, not to mention Mer's struggle with jealousy over Janelle's (as well as the other wives) ability to pop out babies one after another while Meri could only have one.
With Meri and Cody's relationship practically nonexistent and her struggle with feeling left out of the "Moms" club it's understandable how she ended up developing a relationship with a man she met online. He made her feel special and beautiful and most importantly accepted. Sadly the loser turned out to be a jacked-up woman but Meri is not the first person to fall victim to a catfish. There is literally a show called Catfish so when the Brown family failed to show any understanding and support for Meri it was really sad.
I totally get that Meri was a "married" woman but her husband is in relationships with three other women and has failed to cherish and nurture his relationship with Meri. So its not hard to she how she could be drawn to someone who (appeared) to value her.
I guess this is when I became a Meri fan. I really felt for her during the whole catfish thing and got better insight to the family dynamics when the rest of the family threw the hammer at her rather then comforting her with a little understanding. I understand Cody being upset feeling like she had cheated on him but was very disappointed in how the other wives treated her. This issue was between Meri and Cody. The other wives acted like she did some terrible thing to them and that simply wasn't true.
To put it bluntly, they should have taken a long look in the mirror before being so judgmental of Meri and assuming they are above temptation because no one is. And now with Meri wanting to purchase her family's home, which I total get and would do the same thing, instead of having a open minded productive conversation with her about how it could happen they all seemed to just want to squash the idea. Wouldn't it have been better if after expressing that they didn't want to be involved in the purchasing of the home or feel that the "family" should contribute funds to it, they discussed with Meri how she could go about purchasing the home on her own and support her in that journey. It's not like if the whole thing goes in the crapper any of their credit would be affected. Come on people! What happen to the "sister wives" code!
Christine
I love Christine's outspokenness and blunt honesty. She will run the gauntlet with a smile on her face and punching a few people in the gut along the way. I love her soft spoken voice and razor sharp tongue. She is the fun wife who seems to have the greatest sense of adventure and is always up for a good time. I just want to hangout with her or even better take a girls trip together. She just seems like she would be a blast. If your listening Christine hit me up - let hangout!
Bottom Line
My verdict is still out on Janelle and Robyn. Janelle seems to be the easy going one while Robyn seems a little naive. I wonder how she would feel if Cody took a fifth wife? A younger, thinner and prettier wife. Now that would make good reality TV.I think I will always be fascinated with Sister Wives. I think they try to project a happier family then they truly are and that there is much more turmoil among the wives then they want people to know. Because if they show that this lifestyle isn't working for them it will reflect on polygamist community itself and show that this lifestyle is very difficult to truly succeed in. But in the end as long as they are all consenting adults if this is the lifestyle they choose, I wish them well.
